Out of Time Mom

Bringing the best of the web to you.

We’re pinching pennies, so it’s going to be a lot of couponing for me. I’ve been using coupons diligently for quite a while, and I’ve really been able to improve our menus and save some money over purchasing a lot of extremely cheap (and unhealthy) food.

So where do I find these coupons? I get a Sunday paper that includes a coupon insert most weeks. I also find a lot of coupons on the internet. (Check your store’s coupon policy. They may not accept internet coupons.)  There are a lot of sites that offer coupons. I will list them below. Continue reading

1 Wiggly Toddler and a Train Trip

It has been over a week since I took OOTToddler over the river and through the woods, to Grandmother’s house via train.  After a week of recovery, I think I am finally able to speak about it.

I was looking forward to seeing our family in MD, as it had been since Christmas that we’d been there, and my mother and father were anxiously waiting to see us. I had never taken a train before so was a bit daunted by the process of traveling with a toddler. The logistics of carrying our stuff and chasing a toddler was weighing heavily, but I thought that I could at least pick up some tips to pass on to you. I was wrong. So so terribly wrong. Mommy minds can go from zero to sixty when something seems off with your child. It’s nice to know that even PNPs do too!

Hi all! After the morning I had, I just had to share this one…. It’s alright to be a “Paranoid Mom” because the well being of your children is a HUGE responsibility! I thought you all would enjoy knowing that I can be that Paranoid Mom too! 😉

Drew Elizabeth told me last night that her chest hurt. Ok, no big deal, I was convinced that she just needed to burp, toot, poop, or all of the above. Very frequently children will have chest pain that is referred gas pains. She has complained of her chest hurting 2 or 3 times in the last month or so, but she also hasn’t been eating her veggies as well as she used to. She has decided after eating her veggies for the past 5 years that she just doesn’t like them anymore. She doesn’t get away with it, and I make her eat a…

Menu Plan Monday 3/12/12

After skipping last week’s Menu Plan Monday for vacation, I’m back, and this time it’s for some creative meal planning. This week, we are tightening our budget belts and eating from the pantry and freezer. No meals out! Including at work! We’ve started the process of buying a home and will need every dime we can scrap together for closings/down payments. I’ve reviewed our budget, and the biggest area we can cut is our food budget.  Besides, I have a deep freezer filled to the brim and when we do move, I certainly don’t want to pack any more extras than I have to. (It would be nice to start over in a new home with a nice clean deep freezer too!)

Here’s our plan for the week:

B: Fruit and yogurt smoothies

L: Pizza leftovers

D: Grilled chicken, asparagus, and sweet potatoes

B: English muffins with peanut butter

L: Greek salad with chicken and feta

D: Jambalya

B: Cereal with fruit and milk

L: Grilled cheese and tomato soup

D: Steamed Shrimp with potatoes and snap peas

B: Egg and cheese English muffin sandwich

L: Peanut Butter and Jelly and carrots with dip

D: Leftovers or stir fry

Thank you to Orgjunkie.com for hosting the Menu Plan Monday on her site.

Have you seen this woman?

I’ve been missing in action lately and I’m sorry. I’ve been swamped and have a bit of writer’s block. Out of Time Toddler has been sick and clingy. It’s been difficult to shed her long enough to send a text, much less something more substantial. I was also out of town for 4 days visiting family, which added to a longer stretch of time away from my trusty computer. I’ll get back to that trip once I’ve sufficiently recovered from the terrible awful no good train trip.

A big, exciting thing is happening in our family. We have finally applied for a home loan. Since then (and before) I have been scouring the MLS site, trulia, zillow, and realtors.com, not to mention relentlessly emailing my Realtor who diligently gets me more information as I need it. I am thrilled and terrified at the prospect.  Thrilled when I look at homes I can supposedly afford. Terrified when I look at our budget and try to adjust my expectations to that amount.

So in the midst of the crazy, I’m going to try to get more posts out there to you. Promise! Again, sorry for the disappearance, but as an Out of Time Mom, it’s never easy!

PS. I missed you.

PPS. What a sap I am.

PPSS. Ok, stop doing this now.

PPPSSS. Seriously, WTF?

PPPPSS. Sorry.

People I want to Punch in the Throat

How many times have I wanted to make a list like this? Well, someone has made a blog that is fun and snarky like I wish mine could be sometimes. Read her blog for a giggle, a teehee, or a laugh out loud! People I want to Punch in the Throat

He knew everything!

Roughly translated from Nostradamus 2012-3 quatrain:

“Aye, though you thought you knew what was under the winter’s snow

You did not know what awaited you.

Armed with only your rake, shovel, and a delicate pair of ballet slippers.

You stepped out into the Spring, unprepared for what you’re stepping into.”

The culprit!

Sadness 😦

When I saw a cookie with bacon, I knew I had to pass it on to my readers. I love any sort of meat based baking. I’m still working on a creamed chip beef cupcake! Wait for that one!

HI all, I wanted to share my cousin, Nikki’s latest “What’s Cooking Wednesday?” recipe. These Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Bacon Cookies won first place in a “Bacon off” contest!
