Out of Time Mom

Bringing the best of the web to you.

Keep your blenders, I’ve got a ninja

I loved you before I knew you.

Last night, OoTDad wanted to go to BJs for some junkish food that I won’t/don’t buy at the store. (He loves blue box mac and cheese! You can mock him if you’d like. ) We had dinner first, not thinking about what time BJs would close. We got there at 6:45 and discovered they close at 7. Eeek!

Since it was OoTDad’s trip, he led the way. OoTToddler and I followed along behind him, gathering a few items that I needed. (Parmesan cheese, tea bags)  As we were heading to the checkout, something caught my eye…

The Ninja Kitchen System!

Let me preface this by saying that I’d just thrown my blender/smoothie maker in the trash after discovering how disgusting it was inside the pourable spout thing on the bottom. Like cringe-worthy disgusting. I’d taken it off and cleaned it several times throughout the life of the blender, but I was tired of the complexity of cleaning it. It wouldn’t just come clean inside the dishwasher, you had to take other tools to clean it inside, and I just don’t have time for that. So, poof, in the trash. I’m done with you, blech. This is in the wake of my also tossing a stand mixer I got 17 years ago at my first wedding. After having to spin the bowl until my arms were like noodles, I decided it just wasn’t worth the effort. I’m desperately seeking a kitchenaid pro stand mixer, but that’s another story.

Oh the things I would do to lure you to my home, you sexy thing...

Anyway… So I’d been half heartedly searching for a blender and nothing was really tickling my fancy. OoTDad’s BFF really liked his ninja. My friend, Out of Time Coworker, stated she really liked her magic bullet. (I’m sorry, I can’t type that without giggling because I have a filthy mind.) They both just seemed gimicky. I wanted to invest in some long term use appliances. But then I saw it, and it looked clean. Like, just put it in the dishwasher and it’s sparkling, clean. At that moment, it was mine. I plopped it in the cart, sent OoTDad for some spinach and bananas, and brought that baby home. All impulsive and it made me giddy. I hadn’t bought anything like that without tons of research before. I felt like a teenager! (A sad, pathetic, not even allowed to go to band camp, teenager.)

On the way home with my new pretty, I was mentally concocting all the goodies I could make in it. Smoothies, milkshakes, soups, bread crumbs, bread dough, cookie dough, pizza dough, and alcoholic drinks aplenty! We unpacked our goodies while I was mentally preparing another list of things I would need to make good use of our ninja. Then, at 8:00 PM, OoTToddler and I headed back out to the store.

We bought ice cream, frozen berries, fresh berries, yogurt, coconut milk (oh em gee, yum!), and silken tofu. Then we went to another store and got some protein powder. (I get so hungry without protein) Then we came home and had OoTDad make us milkshakes. This morning, I made smoothies for all. The ninja was a pro and it was easy to make them individually so each of us could get what we like best. I am definitely working this into our weekly meal plan. There are so many variations on breakfast smoothies and I’m looking forward to making them this week. I might even try kale! Ok, let’s not go overboard the first week…

Only time will tell if the ninja is the long term appliance investment I was looking for, but even if not, it wasn’t that much, and we’re having a lot of fun with it so far. Sometimes impulse buys are the best!

Do you have a small appliance you love? What kind and what do you love about it?
